Mother’s Day is one of our favorite holidays. Moms deserve more than just one day of thanks a year, but it’s a great excuse to show her how much you care.

One thing we’re thankful for this year is the technology that allows us to spend the day together virtually. Whether you’d like to show your love to Mom, Grandma, or Great-Grandma, there are still several ways you can connect and enjoy the day online.

Whether you’ll be five miles or five thousand miles apart this Mother’s Day, here are some ways you can spend some time showing her how much she means to you.

Celebrate Through Video Calls

For many, celebrating Mother’s Day will be taking place virtually. Sit and catch up with your beverage of choice, or make it a family affair and invite everyone online. Get creative: video chat on your phone and take a walk, decorate the wall behind you, change your video background to virtually travel around the world, or set up a picnic around your screens and enjoy some time together outside.

Create A Mother’s Day Surprise

Turn a regular video call into a surprise party. Invite the extended family without telling Mom and have everyone join in on the fun. Reminisce on old memories or start planning future adventures. Sing old family songs together or put together a slideshow with photos of cherished family moments. Work with the entire family on a video tribute: just have everyone upload their own video, arrange, and then share. You can also write a handwritten letter and mail it to her. She’ll love the gesture and appreciate whatever thoughtful words you decide to put to paper.

Enjoy A Mother’s Day Brunch

Keep with tradition and have a virtual brunch. Have food delivered (or enlist Dad’s help) before sitting down to enjoy a meal together. For those who love to cook, video chat while cooking up recipes from the family cookbook. Ship Mom her favorite drink and enjoy an online tea party or at-home wine tasting. Into themed events? Turn it into a pajama party or dress in your Sunday best.

Connect Through Virtual Activities

Make this Sunday a special one. Choose a movie to watch together, get your adrenaline pumping with an in-home workout or yoga course, or host a virtual game night with games from your childhood. Send Mom art supplies and wine for an at-home PaintNite session or whip out your nail polish collections and create your own spa day.

Face-to-Face Celebrations

If you live nearby, there are several unique ways to show Mom how much you care. Bring the family together for a drive-by parade and wave hello from your respective cars. Leave presents on the doorstep or put signs up on the lawn. Talk face-to-face or enjoy a meal together — at a safe distance or through a closed window.

These are just a few of the inventive ways to spend some quality time together and stay focused on what matters right now. No matter how you decide to celebrate Mom on this special day, remind her of your love. Send her a thoughtful photo book or make the day special with a new method of video calling. Find a new show, podcast, or book to start together.

Bring a smile to her face with stories from your childhood and talk about the trips you’ll be taking together in the future. Although spending Mother’s Day apart can be a challenge, show her how much she means through your actions and words. It will mean the world and make this day one to remember.
