Here’s another great app review from our intern Tyler!

Over’s motto is to “make guitars, not violins.” From their own website:

“Violins are beautiful instruments. They can bring you to tears in a song or terrify you in a horror movie. But they are hard to learn. We like guitars. Anyone can pick up a guitar and play a few chords, but it’s also possible to play face-melting guitar solos.”

The idea is to have the ability to create something simple, while also being able to create something unique and intricate.

overWhat is Over, exactly?

Over is a photo editing app that makes it easy to add text OVER your images. Sounds cool, right? But the creativity doesn’t stop there. By using the palette feature, you can also add images, art and even search the web for fun, transparent images to add to your photo.

Should I use this app?

You should use Over if you need to create images to promote an event, business, product, etc. Or even to create fun, engaging images to share on social media. Of course you can use the app to create cute picture messages to send to friends and family, but I see a great opportunity for using Over in promotional/marketing efforts. You can even use it to create invites. For those of you who are familiar with Canva, Over is very similar!

The app’s default features include: Font, Color, Size, Opacity, RotateSpacing, Alignment and Nudge.

What are the pros?

One feature that I particularly like is the ability to take photos right from stock photo sites like Pixabay or Unsplash. A lot of the time when creating promotional images we use relevant photos that other people have taken..but REMEMBER, you need to be sure you have the rights to use these photos! This is why I love the in-app feature that allows you to grab photos from these sites.

  • There’s always 10 Unsplash photos available and the option to purchase more for $1.99
  • There’s free daily artwork
  • And there’s the Add-ons section: your chance to get even fancier by purchasing themed artwork or additional fonts

Are there any cons?

The only con I see with this app is the fact that you have to pay for other features other than the default features, 10 Unsplash photos and free artwork. But, hey, you can still do A LOT with what they give you. It all depends on your budget and what you’re willing to spend. Are you using Over just for fun or for business purposes?

Over offers so many different editing opportunities. The add-on features include Pro Toolkit, Filters, Cropping, Drop Shadow, Blend, Unsplash, Add Image, Google Image Search, Pixabay, Blur, Tint and Replay.

It’s kind of like having a mini Photoshop app! Although you have to pay (between $0.99-$2.99) for the added features they cost a lot less than Photoshop and you can work conveniently on your phone or iPad!

How much does this app cost?

Over is available FREE for iPhones and iPads.

You can get Over on your iPhone/iPad here.

Unfortunately, Over is no longer available for Android devices, but the Quick app is very similar.

Anything else?

Just this tidbit of trivia: Over’s headquarters are in South Africa and they have team members in both Sweden and the U.S. Over is all OVER the place.

As long as you’re willing to purchase the editing features, I’d say give Over a try!
